1) DE NAME ‘OETELAAR'

There a hamlet exists under Schijndel between Schijndel and Gemonde/St. Michielsgestel with the name "Oetelaar". Via the last archiefgegevens (till approximately 1280) know I that my ancestors here from the 13,e Century ground owned. Probably also well before (cijnsarchieven of the Duke of Brabant).

Former belonged this order till a large zgn. "Common possession" (spent as such through the Duke of Brabant) the "Bottom of Elde".

Until the 10e century was not the Bottom of Elde habitably (too wet). Probable are the first "Oetelaars" in the middle Ages (from the 11e Century) begun with ontginning of a part of the "Bottom of Elde". The name "laar" points on that to. A "laar" is an open ontginning in a much larger bosgebied. "Oetel" means frog (think of Oeteldonk = The Bosch) and emphasizes probably once again the wet character of the territory.
